Statement on Research

When considering Ernest Boyer’s definition of Scholarship Reconsidered, a part of our mission in the land-grant institution is dissemination of knowledge through a variety of communication channels. This includes peer-reviewed journals, books, proceedings, and presentations.

My scholarship is communicated through 46 refereed journal articles in 15 scholarly journals. The Journal of Agricultural Education is the premier journal of the American Association for Agricultural Education with an acceptance rate of 40% and a readership of approximately 500 members. The American Journal of Distance Education disseminates information about research in and practice of distance education in the Americas with a 25% acceptance rate and a readership of approximately 1,600 subscribers. The Quarterly Review of Distance Education is a rigorously refereed journal publishing articles, research briefs, reviews, and editorials dealing with the theories, research, and practices of distance education. The readership is approximately 600 worldwide and the acceptance rate is 50%. Integration and application of knowledge is important in social science research. Planning and Changing: an Educational Leadership and Policy Journal includes formal studies using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, as well as reflective, theoretical aspects of education with an acceptance rate of approximately 40%. Human Resource Development International is a peer-reviewed journal, published quarterly in Oxfordshire, UK.  The typical acceptance rate of HRDI is 38%.  Other journals, such as the Journal of Extension and the Journal of Distance Learning Administration are on-line electronic journals that provide timely distribution of knowledge. Journal of Extension (JOE) is a refereed publication of the U.S. Cooperative Extension Service with an acceptance rate of approximately 80% and 46,673 visitors (readers) per month. In the field of distance education, this is extremely important since new knowledge is changing at a rapid pace.  I also was the lead author on a book, Advanced Methods in Distance Education (2005).
